Paul Mullin, a forward for Wrexham, has acknowledged disobeying medical advice after making his long-anticipated comeback from injury.

When he collided with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop during the first half of their preseason match in San Diego back in July, the 28-year-old striker was in fear for his life.

Mullin was given oxygen by medical personnel and treated for seven minutes before leaving the field. A punctured lung was later determined to be the cause of Mullin’s condition.

He rejoined the main team after little under two months on the bench.

He claimed, according to The Mirror, “I returned a lot quicker than expected.” “One specialist informed me that it might have been six months away. For me, that would have signaled the end of the world.

However, Mullin said, “I haven’t played a genuine complete game since April against Yeovil at home, so it still feels like a long-term injury. This was the first 90 minutes I had played in a very long time (against Crewe).

It was the first injury that prevented me from working for more than a week. Although scoring has been satisfying, I know I still need to put in my best effort to feel as happy as last year.

The former Swindon and Tranmere forward also disclosed that after having a lung punctured, he had been advised by medical personnel to put protective covering on his chest.

Mullin, however, has chosen not to heed the prescription.

I was only supposed to use it for a few weeks.

He explained: “I was trying to breathe in but nothing was happening” in a column for The Athletic. I was unable to inhale any air. When I realized it was horrible, that was.

“As I was gasping for air and my lips started to turn blue, I decided that this might be it for me. That was the sensation. I had some trouble breathing for a while.

“I remember getting my head to the ball a few seconds earlier and then falling,” he continued.

“For someone like myself who will repeatedly engage in that kind of behavior, getting exhausted is something I’m used to. It typically lasts for around ten seconds and is never pleasant. But this time, I was powerless to escape it.

After Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said he had “lost contact” with his top striker, Paul Mullin responded brilliantly.

Following a clash with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop during a preseason game last month, Mullin suffered a punctured lung.

The 28-year-old was unable to play at the start of League Two, therefore he was not present for Wrexham’s 5-3 loss to MK Dons on Saturday.

Despite missing Tuesday’s Carabao Cup victory over League One club Wigan on penalties, the striker received more encouraging injury-related news that day.

Although there is no specific timeframe for Mullin’s comeback to football, he was given permission to fly from California, where the injury occurred, back to Wales to continue his recuperation.

He observed the Red Dragons’ first victory of the new season in the interim and had a humorous reply for his management.

Parkinson is no stranger to cup upsets; in the 2012–13 season, he led Bradford to the League Cup final.

The most recent addition to his impressive cup resume is Tuesday’s triumph over Wigan. His team also delivered a stunning 4-2 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in January 2015.

After the triumph, the Lancashire-born manager naturally wanted to celebrate with Mullin, but said

“He hasn’t been answering his phone for a few days,” he said to Sky Sports. which you are not at fault.

“He’ll be back with us, and when he comes back in the next few days we’ll be able to assess, we’ll send him to see a specialist, and we’ll see how long he’s going to be out for.”

Mullin replied by posting a picture of himself on a flight leaving California and writing, “BRB, data ran out.”

Given Mullin’s great goal-scoring record for the team, Parkinson and co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be eager for him to get back to 100% as soon as possible.

Given Mullin’s great goal-scoring record for the team, Parkinson and co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be eager for him to get back to 100% as soon as possible.

At the Racecourse Ground, where he has played for two seasons, he has scored 79 goals in all competitions, he will look to immediately make an impact.

James McClean, a winger for the Republic of Ireland, has been recruited by Wrexham in the meantime, but the 34-year-old has not yet made his debut for his new team. In League One for Wigan in the 2021–2022 season, he scored nine goals.

Parkinson spoke on the effort to find a successor for Mullin, saying: “We have a few bids on the table, but it’s hard to get talented attackers out of clubs, especially when they’re on the market.
