Duff says that our injured trio leaves us “Thin On The Ground” on HOMEFIRST TEAM
Duff claims that our first team is “thin on the ground” because of the injured trio. Frank Sumbler 8:00 Sunday, October 1, 2023 No Comments

Injury-wise, Michael Duff has not had a good week. Following the 3-0 victory against Millwall yesterday afternoon, he had to deal with three further injuries, at least one of which will affect the starting lineup against Norwich on Wednesday night.

Kristian Pedersen missed yesterday’s victory at The Den due to a groyne injury, but Duff was also questioned about probable injuries to Jerry Yates and Charlie Patino when he spoke after the game.

He had earlier in the week announced that these trio will follow.

Jerry took two dead legs, so we’ll just have to wait and see on that, remarked Duff in reference to the removals of Aates and Patino during yesterday’s victory.

Charlie only had a cramp. We’re beginning to become a little thin on the ground now, so hopefully nothing else happens when the guys come in for a cooldown tomorrow.

Yates’ participation on Wednesday must be in some doubt because of those two dead legs, but Patino should be able to play, and Duff did sound more optimistic about that.

At Landore Training Ground, Swansea City’s Under-21s defeated Hull City handily in the opening round of the Premier League Cup thanks to goals from Kristian Fletcher (2), Ruben Davies, and Liam Smith.

Following the restart, DC United loanee Fletcher earned and scored a penalty kick, and less than a minute later, Davies added a second.

Before Smith added the finishing flourish by making it 4-0 late in the game, Fletcher scored his second goal of the evening early in the game, placing it into the far corner past Owen Foster’s hands.

The Swans defeated the Tigers 4-0 in their previous meeting between the two teams earlier this month at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Six changes were made to the lineup from the midweek match against Queens Park Rangers. Dan Watts, Kai Ludvigsen, Maliq Cadogan, Cameron Congreve, Ben Lloyd, and Kyrell Wilson were replaced by Josh Carey, Richard Faakye, Joe Thomas—who made his first start of the year after recovering from an injury—Kian Jenkins, Davies, and Smith, with the latter two moving to the bench.

After previously playing against The Tigers in league play and QPR, Nathan Tjoe-A-On earned his third start for the age-grade team, while Filip Lissah once more served as captain.

Early in the game, there were cards sent out, with Harry Jones receiving a yellow card for a foul on Henry Sandat. The Tigers’ subsequent free kick, taken by captain Olivier Green, narrowly missed the crossbar.

Later, when Sincere Hall moved into the penalty area, Filip Lissah’s outstretched leg stopped him from shooting. The Swans captain then rose to his highest point to head away the ensuing corner.

Smith patiently built up space, allowing Thomas to cross to Fletcher, whose volley went wide.

Swansea were in control and Davies almost found Smith with a quick dash down the right, but the low pass flew across the net as Swansea pressed once again.

The home team continued to gain ground in the Tigers’ half, but before Hall could try to test Ben Hughes in goal, Tjoe-A-On and Smith chased him down.
