At the Shanghai Masters, Andy Murray was eliminated in the first round by Roman Safiullin, 6-3, 6-2, and Jannik Sinner won the China Open.

Alex De Minaur gave Murray an early exit from the China Open after he dropped his opening service game. Murray then squandered opportunities to break back quickly as Safiullin went into a 2-0 lead.

The Russian then took the following opportunity to break, winning the first set 6-3.

Murray attempted to refocus for the second set, but Safiullin, who was playing for the first time since winning the Chengdu Open, stayed aggressive.

The Russian took a 2-0 lead after another early break, and even though Murray, who has won the Shanghai tournament three times, immediately broke back, he then lost his serve, giving Safiullin a 3-1 advantage.

Murray kept cutting a disgruntled figure in the seventh game as another questionable line decision went against him.

Safiullin was given his first opportunity to earn a match point when Murray’s routine forehand return went into the net. It seemed only a matter of time until Safiullin would secure the victory.

After Murray’s serve, Safiullin fired a deep return because Murray had advanced up court. Although the return was declared out, a review revealed that the ball had actually dropped just on the very back edge of the baseline.

Alexander Zverev, the German world No. 10 who defeated Safiullin in three sets in the Chengdu Open final last month, will be Safiullin’s opponent in the following round.

Sinner defeated second seed Daniil Medvedev in the China Open final with a score of 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-2) to win his third championship of the year and ninth overall.

The Italian entered the match having fallen to Medvedev in their previous six encounters, including twice this season in the finals of Rotterdam and Miami. Despite this, the Italian kept up with Medvedev and won the opening set in a tie-break.

In the following set, both players exchanged vicious punches from the baseline and sped through their service games before the 22-year-old Sinner elevated his game once more in the tie-break to seal a remarkable victory in Beijing.

Sinner praised his victory, which came after a triumph over Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals, saying, “It means a lot.” a lot of labor.

“I thought I was ready for this game today. I’ve fallen short of him a lot. This was a good week, and it feels amazing when you defeat someone you’ve never defeated.

“I overcame several difficult obstacles, and I’m quite proud of how I handled the circumstances. It has been fantastic.
