Billy Davies is rumoured to be interested in taking over the Ibrox hot seat, as Rangers are looking for a replacement for Michael Beale, who was fired on Sunday night after the club’s 3-1 loss to Aberdeen the previous day.

Few Rangers supporters were shocked when the axe dropped on Sunday since the pressure had been building for weeks.

Numerous managers have previously been mentioned in connection with the Rangers position, including one who hasn’t played football in a very long time.

Billy Davies wants a job at Rangers.

Additionally, Davies is promoting the concept of hiring an accomplished coaching staff made up of individuals with strong ties to the Rangers.

Glasgow-native Davies played with Rangers briefly during his playing career, earning a few first-team games before departing for Scandinavia.

After assisting Craig Brown at Deepdale, Davies truly established himself as a manager at Preston North End.

The 59-year-old earned playoff positions with PNE, Derby County, and Nottingham Forest, becoming into something of a top-six specialist in the English Championship.

The Scot has been in an odd position over the last few years, however. Davies told The Times in 2014 that a smear campaign blocked him from becoming Rangers manager. It was claimed that a Rangers board member indicated that things written about Davies on forums ultimately kiboshed a move to Ibrox. Davies admitted in 2010 that managing Rangers was his dream, so it’s not surprising to read that he wants the job now.

Although Davies may believe that this is his final opportunity to lead Rangers, it was a long time ago. The question is if the Gers would take a chance on a manager who hasn’t been in the game for so long.
