After worsening a hip ailment from last summer, the midfielder has consulted experts, and manager Brendan Rodgers has not set a timetable for his return to play.
UPDATE: On Friday afternoon, Brendan Rodgers provided an update on James Maddison’s hip injury, which you can read here. The original Thursday night story may be seen below.
James Maddison will be evaluated on a daily basis to see whether he is ready to return from his hip injury.
The Leicester City attacking midfielder saw doctors in London this week after aggravating an injury in the 2-1 win against Aston Villa.
Maddison missed the final few weeks of last season due to a hip ailment, and he was forced to undergo minor surgery on it, causing him to have a delayed start to this season.
However, pain returned to Maddison’s hip for the first time since the procedure, prompting him to miss City’s stunning exit from the Europa League at the hands of Slavia Prague on Thursday night.
Manager Brendan Rodgers stated that there is no timetable for Maddison’s comeback since he would have to wait for the discomfort to diminish.
He gave no hint that his starting quarterback will be available to play Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.
“We don’t have a timeline,” Rodgers said of Maddison’s injury after the game.
“I can’t give you a timetable. It’ll all come down to how he feels. We’ll just have to evaluate it on a daily basis.”
With Ayoze Perez and Dennis Praet also sidelined, and Kelechi Iheanacho suspended on Thursday night, Youri Tielemans was forced to fill Maddison’s spot, although Rodgers confessed afterwards that the choice did not go as smoothly as he had hoped.
Iheanacho is eligible for this weekend’s match against Arsenal and might partner Jamie Vardy up attack.
