Wales’ Six Nations match against England was called off when England full-back Abby Dow suffered a catastrophic injury at Kingsholm.
The 24-year-old appeared to be in severe pain as she collapsed holding her leg after being caught in a tackle deep in Wales’ 22, her screams picked up by microphones across the stadium. Dow was brought off the ground on a stretcher after about 15 minutes, with the Wasps Ladies star getting oxygen as she was carried away to a standing ovation from the spectators.
Due to the length of time it took to treat Dow, both sets of players were required to go through many warm-ups before the game resumed.
Wales had started the encounter against the world’s finest well, having won the first two matches of the competition, and the game was scoreless at the time of Dow’s injury after 14 minutes.
However, England took the lead shortly after the restart thanks to Lark Davies’ try. Following the score, there was another lengthy pause while the referee looked find doctors on the sideline since they were all with Dow, with the action unable to begin without some medical presence pitchside.
