Tyreece Simpson’s performance against Exeter City on Saturday, when he came off the bench to play a crucial part in the Cobblers’ triumph, has led manager Jon Brady to believe that Cobblers fans are beginning to see the best of the striker.

The brilliant 21-year-old Huddersfield Town loanee has shown flashes of his promise this season, but he hasn’t netted a league goal and has only started one of Northampton’s last five League One games.

He has scored twice in the EFL Trophy, though, and he was a standout substitute against Exeter on Saturday. Patrick Brough’s second goal at St James Park, which completed a 2-0 victory, was the result of his 50-yard rushing sprint from one end to the other.
