Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien has been injured while playing for Middlesbrough against Watford in the Championship.
Lewis O’Brien, a Nottingham Forest midfielder on loan at Middlesbrough, has sustained a possibly catastrophic injury.
O’Brien suffered an ankle injury during Saturday’s 3-2 triumph against Watford and was replaced after only 36 minutes. Boro manager Michael Carrick said after the game that he is “fearing the worst” for the 24-year-old.
Carrick said it “doesn’t look good” for O’Brien, but the midfielder will have to get a scan to determine the extent of his injury. If the problem is significant, O’Brien may have to return to Forest for treatment.

“It doesn’t look good, to be honest,” Carrick said after the game on Saturday. “With Lewis, we’re expecting the worst. We’ll have to wait for scans, but it’s possible that he’ll be out for a while.
“It was a whack on his ankle and the bottom of his shin bone.” Fingers crossed it doesn’t turn out to be as catastrophic as anticipated, but it doesn’t look promising right now.”
O’Brien has made six loan appearances for Middlesbrough this season, five of which have come in the Championship. From midfield, he has yet to score or assist.
