Journalist Jonny McFarlane bemoaned “truly woeful” Rangers and the acquisition of Cyriel Dessers after they were defeated 3-1 by Aberdeen at Ibrox.
The Rangers Review columnist slammed the £4.5 million paid on Dessers after he delivered yet another poor performance since coming in Glasgow this summer.
McFarlane stated Rangers showed little to no attacking threat despite having 71% possession but unable to transform it into an excellent performance, allowing three goals to a polished Aberdeen team and having Scott Wright sent off.
Following the game on Saturday (30 September), McFarlane commented on his personal Twitter account, “Rangers were truly woeful today.” Aberdeen set up a rope-a-dope and pulled it off way too quickly.
“This side poses little to no attacking threat.” Ten goals in seven Premier League games. At £4.5 million, Cyriel Dessers appears to be a terrible signing.”
After another dreadful performance from this Rangers team at Ibrox, the pressure on Michael Beale’s position is expected to increase once more.
The absence of a clinical finisher is particularly concerning, given that Beale brought in Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima, and Dessers in the summer in an attempt to rebuild a formidable front line following the departures of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.
The newcomers are not near as talented as the ones they are meant to replace. This is true across the board, as Jack Butland is the sole decent signing of the £13 million spent on nine different players. That says a lot about Beale’s character.
After another dreadful performance by Dessers and the team as a whole, there is a palpable sense of dissatisfaction at Ibrox, and it’s tough to see them getting out of this one unscathed.
