Tony Johnson, 55, was discovered with a significant head injury outside The Manchester pub, near the intersection of Lytham Road and the Promenade, around 7 p.m. on Saturday, following Blackpool’s Sky Bet Championship game against Burnley.

At before 7 p.m., officers discovered Tony Johnson, 55, with a major head injury outside The Manchester bar, at the intersection of Lytham Road and the Promenade.

“Supporters are also invited, along with the club’s staff and players, to lay flowers at the Mortensen Statue behind the North Stand at 4pm today, giving everyone associated with the football club the opportunity to come together and remember a lifelong Seasider.”

“All of the thoughts of everyone at the football club go out to Tony’s family and friends.”

As they put together what happened, detectives are continuing to ask for information regarding the event or any footage of it.

A statement issued by Lancashire Police states: “A 33-year-old man from Burnley was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding and he has since been bailed, pending further enquiries, until June 1.”

There is yet no evidence that Mr Johnson was deliberately targeted.
