Former West Bromwich Albion player Ian Hamilton has died, according to the club.

Between 1992 and 1998, the midfielder made 282 appearances for The Baggies, scoring 28 goals.

Hamilton was instrumental in Albion’s promotion from Division Two via the play-offs in 1993, appearing in every league games that season.

And the club has announced that he will be honoured with a minute’s applause before kick-off in the team’s next home game against Millwall on Saturday, September 23.

“West Bromwich Albion are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Ian Hamilton, aged 55,” the club stated in a statement.

“Albion will honour Ian with a minute of applause before kickoff in their next home game against Millwall on Saturday, September 23.”

“Everyone at the football club sends their heartfelt condolences to Ian’s family and friends at this desperately sad time.”
