Blackpool have been struck another injury setback with the announcement that Shayne Lavery will be out for up to eight weeks.
The striker went out in the 21st minute of Saturday’s defeat against Reading with a hamstring injury, and head coach Mick McCarthy said the Northern Irishman will be out for a lengthy period of time.

Mick McCarthy stated before of this weekend’s game against top-of-the-table Burnley: “Shayne Lavery won’t be fit – he could be out for six to eight weeks.” “When I asked him how he got it, he said he just sidefooted the ball, which is strange.”It’s a pity because I felt he started the game pretty well (against Reading) and obviously we had to modify the structure when he went off.”
The news comes as Blackpool continue to struggle to produce chances in front of goal, putting more strain on fellow attackers Jerry Yates and Gary Madine, who are both recovering from injuries. While both are in contention to face Burnley, McCarthy concedes he is running out of alternatives in the attacking third.
“We don’t have a lot of strikers – the two we have are both coming back from niggly injuries, not long-term ones.” If either of them is hurt, we’ll have to put someone else in a position they’re unfamiliar with. That would be difficult; we need our attackers to be fit, but we also need to generate opportunities for them.”
Lewis Florini, who played 90 minutes with the development squad in midweek, might also play on Saturday, however Liam Bridcutt’s recuperation has been hampered.
