An overturned school bus carrying students from two Wirral schools was involved in the incident.

Following a significant incident on the M53, Tranmere Rovers and others have sent messages of solidarity.

Just after 8 a.m. today, emergency services were summoned to reports that a bus had collided with a reservation on the M5 near Hooton. Calday Grange Grammar School and West Kirby Grammar School for Girls both stated that one of their school buses was involved in the incident.

As approximately 50 patients were treated at the scene, North West Ambulance Service declared a “major incident” and verified a lady was brought to hospital with significant trauma injuries. A “major incident” has been declared at both Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Arrowe Park Hospital.

“We are saddened to hear the news of a bus accident on the M53 this morning,” Tranmere Rovers Football Club stated in a statement. We hope all of our Calday Grange Grammar School and West Kirby Grammar School pals are safe.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with those involved.”

“I am aware of a serious road traffic incident this morning on the M53 involving a local school bus,” Angela Eagle, MP for Wallasey, stated. My thoughts go out to everyone involved, as well as their families and the educational community. Thoughts are also with the emergency services in Arrowe Park, who are now on the scene.

“Thoughts with everyone affected by this incident on the M53 and all at @AlderHey who are treating casualties,” stated Ian Byrne, MP for West Derby. Please adhere to the hospital’s advice and only bring urgent situations to the Emergency Department.”

According to Merseyside Police, M53 junctions 3 to 5 are blocked in both directions. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service supervised the safe removal of passengers and the driver, while North West Ambulance Service responded to anybody in need of medical attention.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, and we ask that people be patient while the event is happening. Enquiries were being conducted, and updates would be provided as soon as possible.
