The 27-year-old joined City from Leeds United in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £42 million, but the England international has struggled to adjust under Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, Phillips has appeared in just 13 Premier League games since joining City last year, and with City’s astonishing plethora of midfield talent, the former Leeds player’s playing time has been restricted.

A loan transfer away from The Etihad as early as January has been proposed as the player attempts to relaunch his stalled career ahead of the European Championships next summer, with Goodison Park a possible destination.

According to the Spanish publication Fichajes.net, Philips might be a ‘interesting alternative’ for Sean Dyche during the January transfer window.

According to the article, “Although Everton are not currently facing midfield problems, the possible sale of Amadou Onana could change the situation.”

Everton might also rekindle their interest in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who has his sights set on the international stage and could leave Old Trafford to muscle his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

“Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire is a player who would fit well in Everton’s current situation, which needs to strengthen its defence,” according to the report.

Although he is not in United manager Erik ten Hag’s plans, Gareth Southgate has told Maguire that he must play consistently in order to be selected for Euro 2024. A transfer to Everton may offer him with the opportunities he requires, at least temporarily.”

According to the same source, Everton might make a January loan move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, while Jordan Pickford will be’sacrificed’ to bankroll other incomings.

Take this with a grain of salt, perhaps.
