It appears that Manchester United fans were not the only ones who were disappointed with Marcus Rashford’s performance against Crystal Palace. United have had a rough start to the season, having suffered three defeats in their first six games leading into the meeting against Palace.

Erik ten Hag’s squad impressed against Roy Hodgson’s side in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, despite Palace making substantial changes. Rashford was rested for the midweek game in order to keep him fresh for Saturday’s encounter against Palace.

However, the attacker was wasteful in front of goal, prompting supporters to express their displeasure on social media. However, United fans were not the only ones who were dissatisfied with Rashford’s performance.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United’s personnel were ‘despairing at Rashford’s usage of the ball’. Ten Hag was even seen dragging Rashford to one side before halftime in an attempt to urge the striker to fire.

Rashford’s struggles in front of goal persisted despite the motivational talk. Rashford was moved to the right wing when Alejandro Garnacho was introduced midway through the second half as United sought an equaliser.

Ten Hag had had enough of the England international by the 76th minute, when he was replaced by Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen. However, they were unable to make a difference as United suffered yet another humiliating defeat.

Ten Hag now has the record for United’s poorest start to a league season after seven games in 34 years. They are presently ranked 10th in the standings, but with the weekend matches done, they might quickly fall into the bottom half.

United is also nine points back of first place in the Premier League, with the race to regain form to compete for a place in Europe having underway. Ten Hag will be hopeful that his team can regain form in Europe this week when they face Galatasaray.
