Ashley Young, a defender for Everton, has outlined how the Toffees could have prevented giving up to Arsenal.
The Everton defense against Arsenal on Sunday was mainly strong. Until Leandro Trossard finally scored in the 69th minute, they were able to contain the Gunners.

At Goodison Park, the north London club’s goal was sufficient to secure all three points. Sean Dyche’s team was completely ineffective in attack and showed no signs that they had enough to catch up once they fell behind, despite their tenacity at the back.

It is obvious that Everton set up with a fairly defensive mindset. They were, however, caught off guard by a superbly executed short corner routine that resulted in Trossard’s goal.

Full-back Ashley Young expressed his shock at Everton’s decision to allow their defenses to be breached in such a way.

Young feels that the objective could have been prevented. The 38-year-old summer signing added, as reported by the official Everton website, “for them clearly taking the short corner, releasing men from the box to go out to the ball a lot quicker…They scored as a result of our inability to prevent it.

Although the Toffees’ way of conceding will be understandably disappointing, Everton’s biggest issue against Arsenal was not this defensive blunder. A bigger issue for Dyche is their total lack of cutting edge.

Everton failed to make any sort of impact on the game despite playing in front of a home crowd. Arsenal overpowered them the entire time. While the Toffees managed just one shot on goal for the whole game, the visitors had 74% of the possession.
