Tranmere Rovers skipper Scott Davies will be out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town.

Rovers may also be without their 34-year-old custodian at the start of next season.

Davies was stretchered off after falling awkwardly when receiving a cross 13 minutes into the game against Mansfield.

“Our greatest nightmare came true. “It’ll be a long recovery,” said boss Keith Hill on BBC Radio Merseyside.

“He requires surgery.” He has our full support for a rapid recovery.”

During Davies’ absence, Joe Murphy is poised to fill in for the League Two promotion contenders, who are now third with nine games remaining.

Tranmere Rovers travel to Cheltenham Town on Friday before hosting leaders Cambridge United on Monday.

Tranmere Rovers’ injury and suspension list for the game against Burton Albion
Tranmere Rovers earned a point against Peterborough United in midweek, and now they must back it up when Burton Albion visit Prenton Park this weekend.

Manager Micky Mellon is still missing a lot of key players, and it appears to be a matter of bringing one back and then losing another!

Corey Blackett-Taylor’s three-match ban has finished, and he played in the Peterborough game on Tuesday, but Calum Woods has been ruled out due to injury, so it’s a tough moment for the Rovers manager.

As we begin to prepare for the weekend’s game, we’ll go through who’s unavailable.

Due to an ankle injury received in a pre-season friendly against Walsall, the right-back has missed the opening few weeks of the season. He has returned to training in the last few weeks but is yet to play for the first team. He was warming up before of the game against Peterborough, despite not being included to the matchday squad, and might be in line for a recall.

THE CALUM WOODS

To add salt to the wounds of a disappointing outcome, the versatile defender suffered a calf injury in last weekend’s 3-0 loss against Oxford United. He’d performed admirably since coming in against Gillingham, providing a more natural option at right-back. He’ll be out of commission for 4-6 weeks, but perhaps Caprice will be accessible.

KANE WILSON’S

The teenage full-back, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, suffered a knee ligament damage in training before the game against Rotherham United. He’ll be out for a few more weeks, albeit the injury was not as severe as initially thought.

MR. MARK ELLIS

Ellis had a knee injury at the conclusion of last season and is still out. It will most likely be some time before we see the seasoned defender in a Rovers shirt again.
