NOTTINGHAM FOREST 3-1 BRIGHTON: The Wales international was carried out on a stretcher after colliding with teammate Brennan Johnson.

Neco Williams, a Nottingham Forest defender, was sent to hospital following a serious head collision as his team rose out of the Premier League relegation zone.

Williams clashed with teammate Brennan Johnson during the second half of Liverpool’s triumph against Brighton and required extensive treatment on the City Ground surface.

With the scores equal, he was carried out on a stretcher, and manager Steve Cooper announced after the game that the defender had been taken to hospital.

After missing a penalty and behind against high-flying Brighton, Cooper’s strugglers might have been forgiven for expecting the worst. Forest, on the other hand, rallied back with a spectacular comeback to get out of the bottom three.

Jason Steele’s penalty save on Brennan Johnson allowed Albion to take the lead in the 38th minute through Facundo Buonanotte. Forest’s top-flight survival prospects were jeopardised by the star’s goal.

Forest, on the other hand, showed tenacity to equalise in first-half stoppage time thanks to Renan Lodi’s deflected cross off Pascal Gross.

Danilo scored his first goal for the club in the 69th minute, before Morgan Gibbs-White converted from the penalty spot.

It was Forest’s first win in 12 attempts and a crushing blow to Brighton, who are attempting to qualify for Europe for the first time.

The victory, however, came at the expense of Forest, who already had 12 players sidelined and lost Moussa Niakhaté to a hamstring injury. Cooper, whose team plays Brentford on Saturday, said: “It’s a good win.” I’m overjoyed and thrilled for the players and supporters.

“But we hadn’t won in months, and as I walked off the pitch, I thought, ‘Let’s get ready for Brentford.'” Consider the penalty misses and injuries, and how the players shown resilience and mental toughness. We made it through, and we should be proud of ourselves.

“We must believe. We have power over our fate.”
