RECKLESS Wesley Fofana suffers a horrible leg injury in a Villarreal friendly, and the Leicester star sends a message from the hospital with a fractured leg.
Leicester defender Wesley Fofana suffered a horrific leg injury as a result of a reckless tackle by Villarreal’s Fernando Nino during a pre-season friendly.

The 20-year-old defender wrote a message from his hospital bed, and the player is now set for a lengthy layoff following a brutal challenge that left Fofana with a broken bone, according to the Foxes.

With the Foxes leading 3-0 in a meaningless encounter at the King Power, Nino came charging in from behind and delivered a vicious scissor tackle that left Fofana in agony.

Replays showed the Frenchman’s foot pointing at an unusual angle, with teammates worried about the young star.

Following extensive treatment, Fofana was taken out on a stretcher and replaced by Ben Nelson as Leicester won 3-2.

The athlete then acknowledged on social media that he had a fractured fibula.

The 20-year-old shared a cheerful message on Instagram, praising Leicester’s ‘amazing medical staff’ and promising supporters that he would return stronger.

Last season, the former Saint-Etienne star was awarded the Foxes’ Young Player of the Season following a sensational debut season in the Premier League in which he made 38 appearances and helped Leicester finish fifth in the league and win the FA Cup for the first time in club history.

Fofana joined Leicester for £36.5 million in October 2020 and has quickly established himself as one of the league’s greatest defenders, with huge things predicted in the coming years.

His injury, though, is a huge setback to Brendan Rodgers’ ambitions for the season, as his team is scheduled to face Manchester City in the Community Shield opener at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
