The fact that captain John Egan will play against Newcastle United this Saturday at Bramall Lane will give Sheffield United a lift.

Egan returned from Republic of Ireland international duty with a knock after traveling there and playing two games while not entirely healthy.

Due to this, Chris Basham filled the defender’s spot in the last week’s loss to Tottenham.

“Egs has trained; he returned,” Heckingbottom added. “Obviously, we’re a day further along this week with having a Sunday game, so he came back in on Tuesday and joined in with the boys so he’s had a full week.”

United will still be without Will Osula, who was with Norway’s under-19 team, and George Baldock, who also got hurt while on vacation with Greece.

Oli McBurnie is out owing to his two cautions against Tottenham, so Heckingbottom has few options up front. Benie Traore might make his first start since the defeat to Manchester City in August in the game against Newcastle.
