The 51-year-old will take over for Billy Dodds, who was fired just over a week ago, and will be introduced as Inverness’ manager on Tuesday morning. Ferguson is available after been fired by Forest Green in July, less than six months into his first permanent senior managing position.

At 9.30 on Tuesday, the former Scotland, Rangers, and Everton striker will be introduced as the new manager of the Scottish Championship team.

Billy Dodds, who was fired by Inverness just over a week ago, will be replaced by the 51-year-old.

Ferguson hasn’t worked in Scotland since his assault conviction in April 1994, when he headbutted defender Jock McStay during Rangers’ 4-0 victory over Raith Rovers.

Ferguson was given a three-month jail term and ultimately spent 44 days in Barlinnie Prison since he was already on probation as a result of an incident at a bar in Anstruther while playing for Dundee United.

Ferguson also received a 12-match suspension from the Scottish FA, following which he announced the end of his international career.

Ferguson made a permanent transfer from Rangers to Everton in 1994 after first signing a loan agreement. He spent four years at Goodison Park.

The striker later joined Newcastle and two years later returned to Everton, where he played for another six years before retiring in 2006.

Ferguson returned to Everton once more in 2014, this time as a coach, and continued to serve in a variety of capacities, including temporary manager, until his departure in 2022.

Ferguson was awarded his first permanent senior managerial position by Forest Green in January, but despite that, they finished last in League One and he only managed to win one of his 18 games.
