Sean Dyche has issued an update on Seamus Coleman’s fitness, stating that the Everton great has made good progress and is currently out on the grass as part of his rehabilitation.
Coleman suffered a knee injury that required him to be stretchered off the ground during Everton’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City in May and has been working hard to return to the pitch.
Dyche was also quick to compliment Coleman’s effect at the club, noting that despite his absence from training, he is constantly involved in meetings with the manager and the players, and that he continues to lead by example off the pitch.
Dyche was asked if he had returned to training and if he was contributing off the pitch at his news conference on September 21, as uploaded by Everton’s official Twitter account, and he replied: “Yeah absolutely [he’s played his role as captain], he’s great around the place.”
“First and foremost, he is not yet training with us; he is out on the grass, so he is progressing, but he is not yet with us, with our group.”
“But he’s always around, chatting with him, chatting with the group and you know the fantastic professional that he is, so yeah he’s always around and his opinion is always welcome.”
Fans will be hoping for a quick comeback.
After a difficult start to the season, supporters will be looking for their captain to make a swift and strong return to the side as soon as possible, since he leads by example and his on-field impact has been severely missed thus far.
Coleman’s leadership is frequently important to this Everton squad, and his ability to motivate the club with his leadership and drive may be the difference between winning and losing in the tight games they face the remainder of the season.
So far this season, the club has appeared to be without motivation, labouring offensively and getting penalised for foolish defensive blunders – something Coleman will not tolerate since he expects great standards from his players.
Of course, despite the fact that he will most certainly help, he will not make all the difference. There should also not be too much anticipation on his comeback, as the rehabilitation process will continue and he will return in due time.
