Everton’s midfield might be an area that needs to be strengthened, and a recent claim from reliable writer Alan Nixon claims that a new acquisition could arrive soon, with scout Steve Davis monitoring one man.
Will Everton bring in any new midfielders?
Overall, the Blues had a solid summer transfer window, bringing in some much-needed quality at a time when several positions required depth. The most improvement was made in attack, with Beto, Youssef Chermiti, Arnaut Danjuma, and Jack Harrison all coming in.
While Everton had a disastrous start to the season, losing all three home Premier League matches in 2023/24, Saturday’s stunning 3-1 triumph away to Brentford indicated that a significant turning point has been reached.
That said, this is still a club that could need a lot more skill moving ahead, and their midfield is probably a touch one-dimensional right now, with too many identical players, from Idrissa Gueye to Amadou Onana. That isn’t to say they aren’t significant and influential guys, but bringing in someone with a bit more offensive zeal may be great.

The Blues are “keeping up the checks” on Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton, according to Nixon on Patreon [via The 72], ahead of a prospective deal for him. Davis, a scout at Goodison Park, is said to have observed him in action to have a better sense of the attributes he may offer to the Toffees in a first transfer.
The 19-year-old has appeared in all eight of his side’s Championship games this season, starting seven of them, and has established himself as an important player despite his youth.
Wharton is not a household name, nor is he someone who would come to Everton and immediately become a regular starter, but he is an intriguing homegrown youngster with a bright future.
He has already participated 25 times in the Championship at his age, and he has scored and assisted twice in the league. He is also a six-time capped England Under-19 international, highlighting his skill. Blackburn youth team coach Ryan Kidd has previously praised him, stating he doesn’t appear to have a weak foot and is technically extremely excellent.
“Adam’s superpower is that he can land it on a sixpence with both feet on anyone.” He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest Under-18s footballers I’ve ever worked with. He is aware that he has to work on other aspects of his game. I was really happy with his work rate and effort, yet Adam has moments of class.”
Everton should always aspire for long-term planning and having top English prospects in their ranks, thus Wharton might be considered an attractive target who can blossom into a big force, maybe at Goodison Park.
