Leicester City’s most recent news Nigel Pearson makes the same remark regarding striker Jamie Vardy as Enzo Maresca.

Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson believes it is a “very important factor” that Jamie Vardy is staying at the club.

Vardy scored the game-winning goal against Pearson’s Bristol City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, marking Pearson’s first visit to Filbert Way as an opposing manager.

Pearson launched Vardy’s King Power career 11 years ago when he became the striker the first £1 million non-league player in 2012, signing him from Fleetwood Town. Pearson feels Vardy’s winning attitude in the final parts of his career should be appreciated.

“Whatever people think of Jamie, the fact that he still has a winning mentality at this stage of his career is something we should acknowledge,” Pearson remarked after the game.

“Players like that bring qualities and standards that you must cultivate.” So the fact that Jamie Vardy is still at Leicester will be crucial.”

Pearson’s attitude is shared by current City manager Enzo Maresca, who recently described Vardy as the “most important player we have” in the club’s pursuit for promotion back to the Premier League. “I have always said the same thing about Jamie,” Maresca stated during the recent victory over Southampton.

“He’s not a player I came across. His background speaks for itself. He’s a massive player, a massive player. Probably our most essential player. But we also have Kelechi (Iheanacho) and (Patson) Daka, so we simply try to manage the players up front.”
