Matty Young: Who is he?
Although the 16-year-old won’t be well-known to fans outside of Sunderland, many supporters of the Black Cats are well aware of the teenager’s abilities.

Young is highly regarded at the Stadium of Light, and thanks to his efforts for the youth, Tony Mowbray’s team has made him their third choice keeper this year.

The goalkeeper also played for Sunderland during preseason, and the manager was quite complimentary of his performance.

It would have been terrific for Matty, who had a brilliant game and in the first half was amazing, to achieve a clean sheet on his debut, but we are a little disappointed that we conceded two goals in the final four minutes.

Man City are considering Matty Young.
Young has been a regular for the Sunderland U21 team, and it seems that his performances have grabbed the attention of the Premier League winners, as The Sun reports that the teenager is interested in moving to Manchester.

Young is expected to succeed like former Cats Anthony Patterson and Jordan Pickford, and City want to sign him before any rivals do. The latest potential to be discovered by Sunderland’s goalkeeping expert Mark Prudhoe is local youngster Young, who has been with the Wearsiders since he was seven years old.

How much money would Matty Young cost Man City?

Young is now only on a scholarship agreement, which puts Sunderland in a vulnerable position when it comes to maintaining him.

He is currently free to speak with other teams because he cannot sign a professional deal until he turns 17 (which is next month).

They would be entitled to compensate if a transfer occurred, but the Black Cats are unlikely to demand the kind of sum for such a potential young player.

Could Matty Young stay with Sunderland?
I have no doubt. There is no indication that Young wants to go, and the recent academy graduate will be grateful for everything Sunderland has done to support him thus far.

More significantly, you might argue that Sunderland is one of the best places in the nation for a young player to be. They have demonstrated a willingness to give kids an opportunity, even if they lack experience, and the goal of the plan is to develop young players into key members of the club.
