Ange Postecoglou’s leadership at Tottenham has been praised, and Robert Vilahamn wants to imitate the Australian’s style of play with the team’s female members.

After making an impression with BK Hacken in his home country of Sweden, Vilahamn was chosen as the new manager of Tottenham Women in July on a two-year contract.

Rehanne Skinner, who was fired in March, was replaced by the 40-year-old after the team’s worst finish since being promoted in 2019—ninth place—in the Women’s Super League.

Vilahamn moved to north London less than a month after Postecoglou was named Antonio Conte’s replacement, and Spurs’ goal of greater club integration has benefited greatly by the Swede’s arrival at the same time.

“I met him [Postecoglou] a few times, and I think the recruitment team at Tottenham saw some similarities between me and him and how we are going to lead these teams,” Vilahamn revealed in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT.

He’s a fantastic man, a smart guy, and he has this experience, in my opinion. It’s great to watch how the men’s squad is now performing. I learned a lot from the experience, and I’m going to do it with the women’s squad as well.

“You realize he went the long way? He is not a young coach under 25. He has been performing his duties and is so kind in doing so. He seems so at ease in that

“I believe that the players are impacted by the way he interacts with them and his playing philosophy. I basically want to do the same. It’s fantastic how he leads those players and conducts himself.

The WSL season begins on October 1, but Spurs will be without Bethany England for the foreseeable future after the striker underwent hip surgery two weeks ago. England is also the new club captain.

The season for Vilahamn’s team begins at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in a delectable London derby, and the Swede has high expectations for Spurs during his time there.

“We are trying to make sure we build an identity on how Tottenham wants to play football,” he said in defense of the team’s efforts.

It ought to be comparable to men’s football and the academy. Hopefully, we can develop football to the point where we can control games, play aggressive football, and ensure that we succeed by doing so.

“We also aim to develop players. We’re not only interested in spending the most money on players. Finding and developing these outstanding players is something we want to make sure of.

“Over time, we hope to contend for both championships and the Champions League. We’re going to make sure to turn this team around, play solid football, and start winning games after that. I’m hoping it won’t take too long.
