Former Everton striker Tom Cannon sent Billy Crellin a two-word message when the custodian renewed his contract at Goodison Park.

The now-Leicester City man praised the young custodian on Instagram (20 September) when he signed a two-year contract extension with the Merseyside club.

Cannon joined Everton in the summer after a successful Championship loan at Preston North End, while Crellin awaits his senior Toffees debut.
“Congratulations, lad,” Cannon remarked.

One to remember for the future

Crellin will be anxious to make his senior Everton debut, but the 23-year-old will have to wait his turn with Jordan Pickford and Joao Virginia ahead of him.

The outpouring of support for the young custodian on social media shows that he is a well-liked asset at Goodison Park, with first-team player Lewis Dobbin expressing his delight at his new deal.

Crellin has been a regular in the Toffees’ junior system, but their season in the Premier League 2 has not started well. Crellin has conceded seven goals in only two outings for the Toffees, who are now bottom of the division.

Having said that, the former Bolton loanee has earned multiple appearances for England’s junior set-up, his most recent being for the under-20s in 2019, demonstrating his tremendous potential.

Cannon has played consistently alongside Crellin in the Premier League 2 for the previous two seasons, with the pair finishing seventh last season. The striker has subsequently progressed to senior football in the Championship but has yet to play for the Foxes.

Crellin, meantime, is confident of seeing first-team action soon but has admitted that he is considering another loan transfer in January. According to the Liverpool Echo (20 September), he stated, “[I’d like to] get to January and go out on loan and show everyone here at the club what I can do.” Then return the next season and proceed from there.”

He has a bright future in Merseyside, but his voyage
