Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed an incredible start to the new Premier League season, currently sitting second in the table. They have already suffered a big setback with the loss of seasoned star Ivan Perisic.

The club has revealed that the Croatia international suffered a serious knee injury in training and will need surgery. He is believed to have ruptured his ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) in his right knee, which is one of the worst injuries a 34-year-old man may get.

“We can confirm that Ivan Perisic has suffered a complex Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee,” the team said in an official statement. The seasoned Croatia international was injured during non-contact training and will have surgery. Ivan will next begin his recovery with our medical experts and is anticipated to miss the rest of the season.”

How long will Perisic be unavailable?

After the injury was verified, Fabrizio Romano provided some insight into Perisic’s future goals and how long it will take for him to recuperate. According to the journalist, the 34-year-old “will miss the next 5/6 months” of activity due to the lengthy healing time required for this type of injury.

This is identical to the type of injury experienced by Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur earlier this year around February, and he has yet to make an official appearance for the club since then. Romano also adds that Perisic, whom he describes as a “fantastic professional,” will now work hard on his recovery once his surgery is successful, and that the Croatian star has a big goal in mind, which is to play for his country in the Euro 2024 next year, and believes he can do it despite his injury.

The seasoned winger joined the Lilywhites from Inter Milan last summer and has appeared in 50 games for them, assisting 14 goals and scoring one himself.
