The 24-year-old was linked with a number of clubs, ranging from those that had recently been demoted to the Championship to those who were in the top flight.

Everton was one of those top-flight clubs interested in the striker, as they wanted to improve their attacking options for the upcoming season.

However, Piroe turned down the opportunity to join Everton and instead signed for Leeds near the end of the transfer window.

How has Joel Piroe done so far for Leeds United?

Obviously, it is too early to judge Piroe and his chances at Leeds, but he has already made a positive impact after just a few games.

The forward has scored three goals in the three league games in which he has been available.

His first goal came on his debut, as the Yorkshire side came out on top 4-3.

He then added to his score from the previous weekend, scoring twice as Leeds defeated Millwall 3-0 at The Den.

He appears to be settling in at Elland Road in an unorthodox position, which is excellent for Leeds but bad for the rest of the league.

Joel Piroe explains why he turned off a summer move to Everton.

Piroe stated in the pre-match press conference prior of Leeds’ game against Hull City at Elland Road that he turned down a move to Everton in the summer and explained why.

“Well, I didn’t play really for the play-offs or directly for promotion, and that’s one thing I needed to check off for myself, I think,” Piroe told the media, via Everton News. Being able to play a lot in the Premier League is also a plus.

“If you want to go there [to the Premier League], you have to make a big decision.” Alternatively, attempt to get promoted alongside someone and earn your spot on the squad first.”

One of the reasons Leeds signed Piroe was because he has scored a lot of goals in the last few seasons and would most likely do so again this season

He has been the bright light in a squad that has battled to go close to the play-offs, therefore for Leeds, who are expected to be there, he might be the deciding factor in the club’s return to the Premier League.

He appears to be settling nicely at the club, and despite playing in an unfamiliar role, he is still finding the back of the net. Daniel Farke will not want to rely only on Piroe, but if the Dutchman scores like he has in the past, you wouldn’t bet against Leeds being promoted from the Championship.
