Dundee manager praises Nottingham Forest loanee Aaron Donnelly in the latest Nottingham Forest news.

Aaron Donnelly, on loan from Nottingham Forest, is due to return from injury sooner than planned.

The defender agreed to a season-long loan with Dundee in the summer, but his stay was cut short after he injured ankle ligaments in training. He was anticipated to remain out “for a while” after returning to the Reds for treatment.

However, Dees coach Tony Docherty said the 20-year-old has recovered quickly. And he has lauded Forest teenager Donnelly’s demeanour.

“He came back up on Monday, his flight was delayed, and he didn’t get in until about 4am,” Docherty told The Courier. “I told him to take the morning off and do his physio checks in the afternoon, but he wanted to be in with the rest of the lads first thing.”

“I believe it says a lot about him.” He was eager to return and resume his journey.

“He’s far ahead of where we anticipated him to be.” He returns considerably faster. “He tore the ligaments, but the ones around it were OK, so he was able to work hard and cut his recuperation period by at least three weeks. So he’ll practise with the lads this week, and we’ll see where he is this weekend.”

Donnelly injured himself during his first week of training at Dens Park. He has yet to make his North American debut.

At the City Ground, the young defender is well recognised. After making his Forest debut in last season’s Carabao Cup triumph against Grimsby Town, he drew acclaim from head coach Steve Cooper and went on to have a successful loan at Port Vale.
