Luke Armstrong, a striker for Harrogate Town, was denied a move by the English Football League, and Wrexham FC is considering appealing that decision.
On Friday, September 1, Armstrong, 27, was scheduled to make a deadline-day transfer to the League Two team.
The amount has not been made public, although it was estimated to be over £450,000, making it the highest player payment Harrogate has ever received.
Town released a press statement announcing the agreement, but it eventually became clear that the EFL had rejected the move because Wrexham had allegedly failed to submit the required documentation on time.
According to a statement released by the Welsh side yesterday, “relevant information regarding a potential appeal against the decision” has been sought.
It read:
“Further to Saturday’s announcement after the denial of Luke Armstrong’s transfer registration, Wrexham AFC can confirm the club is currently actively gathering the necessary data in preparation for a prospective appeal against the ruling.
We asked the EFL for important information late this afternoon, and we should have it tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, according to our information.
Armstrong has 106 appearances with Harrogate and 31 goals.
After star striker Paul Mullin suffered a collapsed lung and four fractured ribs during the team’s preseason tour of the United States, Wrexham began searching for a replacement.
