Joe Taylor, a loanee from Luton Town, has been doing well so far for Colchester United. The 20-year-old striker struck against Championship team Cardiff City in the EFL Cup and has four league goals in six appearances for the League Two team.
Taylor has received high acclaim from the Essex club’s supporters despite The U’s dismal performance so far this season.
The striker has demonstrated his willingness to wait for the last man, get in behind defences, and finish from balls whipped across the box. He has also demonstrated how his turn of speed, when used in conjunction with smart movement, can help him shed his opponent.
When Taylor originally joined the club from Peterborough United, Luton Town manager Rob Edwards cited this as one of his strengths, which is maybe unusual for a young attacker in the current game.
He is adept at what he knows, according to Edwards. He plays off the shoulder, has good speed, and enjoys closing in on teams.
“A lot of things come to feet, and defenders don’t like people running in behind them,” says a striker. “You don’t see many strikers running in behind all the time.”
Ben Garner feared Taylor’s confrontational style would result in a red card, therefore the inexperienced attacker was replaced in the second half of two of the past three games he participated in.
We don’t want to diminish Joe’s enthusiasm for his enjoyment of the game, according to Garner. Just a little education is provided.
“In the previous two games, it has gotten to the point where a red card was a possibility, and he has had to be hauled off for his own safety.
He has demonstrated his abilities for us, so all we need to do is be patient and continue working with him. Although I believe he is a great addition who will perform admirably for us, it is our responsibility to simultaneously teach and develop him.
Taylor then put up a solid performance in his team’s 2-0 win over Tranmere the following weekend, earning praise from Garner for Colchester’s “complete performance.”
The youthful attacker seized hold of an incredible through pass from former Luton Town player Arthur Read.
