Journalist Ben Jacobs believes Leeds United will enter the free agency market if the right player becomes available.

Jacobs told Give Me Sport that it is ‘clear’ that Leeds still need a new left-back but that he will not bring someone in ‘for the sake of it’.

Leeds signed nine new players during the summer transfer window, but they still appear to be lacking in a handful of important areas.

The Whites could have used a new number 10 and were definitely interested in doing so, having come close to signing Nadiem Amiri but failing to locate a suitable replacement.

As previously said, left-back is definitely a source of worry, with Leeds making a late push for Luke Thomas before he joined Sheffield United.

According to Jacobs, Leeds might enter the free agent market.
In terms of Leeds’ present left-back issue, Jacobs does not feel there is anyone available ‘that are suitable’ for Daniel Farke’s side at this time, but believes the club would go to the free agency market if the proper player is available.

“I don’t expect Leeds to panic sign and get cover for the sake of cover,” he added. Anyone looking at what Leeds has on paper can see that they still need to strengthen in the left-back position. As a result, if a free agent becomes available, they will relocate since it is low-risk and cost-effective.

“But right now, I don’t believe there are many targets that are appropriate for Leeds.” There’s no purpose in just adding more bodies if they’re not going to help the football team. So Firpo has the left-back position, and Leeds will only hope he remains fit.”

While the summer transfer window closed two weeks ago, teams may still sign free agents at any time during the year.

However, as Jacobs stated, there is presently no one better than what Leeds have, so Farke will have to make do with Junior Firpo, Sam Byram, and Jamie Shackleton as his choices at left-back.

If they can keep healthy, it should be enough to carry them through until January, but it may be worth checking at again once the window reopens.
