The ex-Morecambe resident was concerned about a return of an old injury.
MK Dons midfielder Ash Hunter welcomed the news that he would be sidelined for six weeks.
The 27-year-old limped out of Crewe Alexandra’s 3-1 defeat last Saturday after sustaining a hamstring injury at the Mornflake Stadium.
However, Dons head coach Graham Alexander stated Hunter was concerned about a recurrence of the same hamstring problem that kept him out for five months at Morecambe last season.
However, after getting a scan on the condition, Alexander stated that Hunter was relieved to learn that the problem is not as serious, but will keep him out until at least late October.
“He’ll be out for five to six weeks with a hamstring injury,” stated the head coach. “We’re actually quite pleased, because he suffered a serious injury last year and was out for five months.”
“Last week, he was quite emotional because he thought he’d done it again.” However, it is in a new location and is not as severe. “He was expecting the worse, so this is a welcome surprise. We encouraged him not to get ahead of himself and to keep positive. We attempted to keep him calm, and we take good care of the guys. We advised Ash to return in better shape, to enhance his general condition.”
MJ Williams, another midfielder, will meet more experts next week to determine whether he can return to training.
The former Bolton man suffered an injury against Crawley last month and has only appeared as a substitute since.
While the 27-year-old has informed Alexander that he feels healthy enough to return to training, his history of knee issues means the Dons want to hear from specialists before permitting him back on the training pitch.
“He’s going to see someone on Monday, someone who knows him and his injury from before, after having injections last week,” Alexander continued. He’s feeling good about himself, which is encouraging, and believes he’ll be able to exercise next week.
