According to TeamTalk, Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury is close to signing a new deal at the King Power Stadium.
Choudhury has less than a year left on his contract with the Foxes and may go for free next summer, but new head coach Enzo Maresca wants to lock down the player’s future to avoid the probable loss at the conclusion of the season.
TeamTalk are also reporting that a whole host of teams have been lining up for Choudhury’s signature given the uncertainty around his future with Leicester City but the club are not willing to lose the former Burton Albion loanee.
Express and Star revealed last year that Choudhury had been a transfer target for Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion as his future with the East Midlands club, who were in the Premier League at the time, was uncertain.
Nonetheless, the midfielder was loaned out to Watford for the whole 2022/23 season as Leicester were demoted to England’s second tier for the first time in over a decade.
Choudhury returned to the King Power Stadium this summer with his future uncertain, and he became a transfer target for Southampton, who are also rebuilding after finishing in the relegation zone last season.
It was thought that the 25-year-old’s stint with the former Premier League winners was coming to an end, but Maresca appears to have changed his mind and wants Choudhury to stay until June 2024.
Choudhury has appeared five times for Leicester City this season in all competitions but is yet to start a Championship game under the ex-Manchester City assistant manager.
Author’s Opinion
Leicester City’s concern of losing Choudhury for nothing at the conclusion of the current season makes tying him down to a new contract logical.
However, because the athlete does not start games at the King Power Stadium, giving away his future makes little sense on a personal level.
