Matt Turner’s starting spot at Nottingham Forest is under threat, according to sources. On transfer deadline day, the Reds signed Greece custodian Odyssea  Vlachodimos from Benfica.

According to The Athletic, the club’s internal opinion is that the new signing will be deemed the number one custodian. However, it is also suggested that he will have to be patient in the short term.

Turner is off to a good start at Forest. He didn’t feature in a Premier League game for Arsenal during the 2022/23 season, but he has since appeared in four for Forest.

He preserved his first clean sheet for the club against Chelsea last time out. With that in mind, it would appear like dropping him for the following game against Burnley would be incredibly harsh on Steve Cooper.

Cooper, on the other hand, will have to make a decision later on. Vlachodimos will not have signed to be a number two, and he will want to play after winning trophies with Benfica.

Turner may lose his starting spot if Forest sign Vlachodimos.
Cooper is in for a difficult situation. Finally, the head coach has always believed that it should be the next guy up, and he frequently rewards strong form.

Turner is currently assisting Forest supporters in forgetting about Dean Henderson. The Reds appeared to be set to recruit the player who spent last season on loan at the City Ground, but Manchester United sold him to Crystal Palace.

Another intriguing component of this custodian brawl might be what Turner is going to go through off the pitch. His girlfriend is due to give birth, and it is unclear whether he will miss any football games at this time.

Vlachodimos will most likely have to wait for his turn to shine for the time being. However, as the season develops, Cooper will have a critical choice about his starting quarterback.
