Dan Bentley has said once again that he is not at Wolves to make up the numbers, but rather to depose Jose Sa as the club’s number one.
Bentley joined the club from Bristol City at the start of the season.
Matija Sarkic was loaned out to Stoke City, therefore he became the club’s new number two.
Bentley’s leadership made an early impression, and he has been a loud presence since his arrival.
In April, he was eventually given his debut against Manchester United, and he completely dazzled.
He subsequently played against Everton the following week.
Bentley has only played one Carabao Cup match this season, against Blackpool. But he’s made it plain once more that he wants the number one jersey at Molineux…
Dan Bentley aspires to be the Wolves’ number one.
Bentley has been discussing his role at Wolves.
He has no doubt that he has come to the club to compete.
He isn’t merely Jose Sa’s backup. He is his competition, and he wishes to replace him between the sticks.
“I came here with a point to prove, and I still have that point to prove,” the 30-year-old stated (Express & Star).
“I come to work every day to play; I’m not here to put pressure on others or make up numbers; I’m here to prove myself.”
“I’ve got the bit between my teeth, and having a taste of Premier League football last year only made me want it more.”
“I’ll work harder than ever and be better than ever to force my way into the manager’s thinking as much as possible, so that hopefully when he decides I’m in the team, it’s my shirt.”
Bentley is quick to point out that he has the highest regard for Sa and the work he has done at Wolves since his arrival.
Dan Bentley has a great mindset.
Bentley is a fantastic public speaker.
He’s said all the right things since joining the club, and it’s evident he’s been an outstanding addition to the dressing room. He is already a member of the club’s leadership team.
He handles himself admirably and is a consummate professional.
His thinking is superb. That is the mentality you require from your number two custodian.
They must feel that they can dethrone the current number one. And you get the impression Bentley truly believes he can accomplish it.
But Sa has had a good start to the season, so he’ll have to work hard.
