Matt Turner will not play for the United States Men’s National Team against Oman after his “boss” recalled him from international service.

WHAT OCCURED?
The 29-year-old shot-stopper played the whole 90-minute match for his country as they defeated Uzbekistan 3-0 in a friendly. Turner was named Player of the Match in that game, however he has since left Gregg Berhalter’s squad.

That’s because his girlfriend, former NFL cheerleader Ashley Herron, is expecting the couple’s second kid. Turner needed permission to go to St. Louis during the international break, but it will be one and done for him as his emphasis turns from professional to personal.

HOW THEY SAID IT
Turner, whose son Eaton was due in June 2022, has explained why he is leaving the USMNT early: “It was a clear message from the boss back home that if I was going to come, I needed to make it worth my while.” All I could ask for was a clean sheet and a victory. “We are now completely focused on the safe arrival of our baby girl into the world.”

WHAT COMES NEXT?
Turner has 33 caps for his nation and is having a great 2023-24 season. Along with the impending birth of his daughter, he has been enjoying first-team play at club level after joining Forest from Arsenal in the summer.
