On deadline day, Chelsea planned a late bid for Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi.
Chelsea made a move for Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi on the final day of the summer transfer window, according to Athletic (Subscription Required). The Blues made an enquiry about the striker in the last 48 hours of the transfer market, but Forest had no intention of selling their starting center-forward.

Last season, the Nigerian attacker had a solid start to his first Premier League season, scoring 11 goals in 27 league outings across all competitions.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old has three goals this season, and he provided the game-winning assist in Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 triumph over Chelsea last week, nutmegging the ball past Thiago Silva’s legs to locate eventual goal-scorer Anthony Elanga.

Chelsea is working hard to improve their goal-scoring record. The club can only hope that the new signings start scoring goals now that they are settling in.

Chelsea is leading in the Premier League in terms of possession, shots, and touches, but 11th in terms of goals scored. Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes persist, with the Blues having won just one of their last four games.

New signee Nicolas Jackson has only been on target once while Armando Broja recovers from a knee injury. The Blues are currently 12th in the league and will play Bournemouth on September 17th.

Would it have made a difference if we had signed Awoniyi? That appears to be a difficult question to answer. However, because he is large, powerful, good in the air, and has a goal-scoring eye, he could have provided manager Mauricio Pochettino with something new to work with.

There are times when a player does not perform as well for a big club as he did before joining them. We can’t put Awoniyi in that category unless he’s given the duty of commanding the frontline of a European powerhouse.

He’s 26 years old and in the prime of his profession. However, such a late move for him could have been interpreted as a sign of panic. It is preferable if we shortlist our targets early on and provide Poch with the players he requires. Let’s see how Awoniyi does for the next several months, and then we’ll take a crack at him maybe next year.
