Rangers great Barry Ferguson has advised current Ibrox player Todd Cantwell to “keep yourself quiet” following a message to Ibrox supporters this week.

The former Gers captain was speaking on GO Radio’s Football Show [06/09/23] as the fallout from the club’s poor start to the season continues.

Rangers are out of the Champions League, four points behind in the Premiership, and not playing well after a 1-0 home defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic at the weekend.

With Michael Beale under fire, Todd Cantwell rushed to Instagram to apologise to fans, which irritated famous ex-Rangers captain Barry Ferguson.

Telling Todd Cantwell to speak for himself on the pitch, it’s all a bit heated at Rangers right now, and the two-week international break appears to be getting to the best of us.

Todd Cantwell is told by Barry Ferguson not to talk on the pitch.
“See things like this (Todd Cantwell’s post),” Barry Ferguson explained. “Set it aside. Go ahead and converse on the pitch.

“I’m sure if you ask any Rangers fans – I understand that social media has a place for players, it’s good for a lot of things – but do the talking on the pitch, which comes in the next game against St Johnstone.”

“Fans aren’t stupid; they want to see on-field performances, and that’s what they expect and demand.”

“I understand it’s the way of social media now, but just keep quiet and show up at McDiarmid Park and skud them three or four nothing and get three points.”

Todd Cantwell wrote the following on his Instagram stories, which has enraged Barry Ferguson and Rangers fans still hurting from the Old Firm defeat:

“We need actions, not words, but silence may appear cowardly in these times.”

“We need unity and cooperation to make this season a success.” Although everything is still in our hands, it is not the start we desired.

“You fans are amazing, and you deserve to see better.” Now it’s our turn.”

While Barry Ferguson may be chastising Todd Cantwell for posting on Instagram, it’s worth noting that he’s not the first Rangers first-teamer to do so after Celtic’s crushing setback.
