Nuno Tavares, the Arsenal defender, was originally hesitant to leave the North London club on loan to Nottingham Forest this summer.
According to a story in The Athletic, Tavares was concerned about making a fast decision.
Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper made Tavares a crucial element of his intentions to install a 3-4-3 formation at the club this season.
At Forest, the 23-year-old was envisioned as the player who would contribute pace on the left side.
And, while Tavares eventually accepted to the transfer – he made his debut at Stamford Bridge last weekend – he was cautious.
Tavares postponed his decision to the point where Forest was apparently in France discussing alternatives.
And it’s possible that Monaco’s Ismael Jakobs’ asking price was too high, keeping Tavares’ loan deal alive.
However, given Tavares’ three points on debut against Chelsea, he’s probably not too disappointed with his decision.
Tavares was always going to battle for playing time at Arsenal this season, and Forest appears to be a perfect opportunity for him.
Tavares was hesitant to leave Arsenal for Forest this summer.
This summer, Arsenal saw something of a defense exodus.
Although not all were permanent, Rob Holding, Kierney Tierney, Pablo Mari, and Auston Trusty all left the club with ‘outstanding’ Tavares.
And Arteta is only known to be interested in offloading a couple of players.
Only Cedric Soares, of those two, is likely to stay an Arsenal player beyond the next week or so.
Nicolas Pepe appears to be on the verge of leaving the club and has been connected with two Turkish clubs.
It took some time, but Arsenal eventually discovered a method to get rid of people from their ‘unsustainable’ roster.
And, while Tavares was reticent to leave the club for Forest, there appears to be little purpose in him staying at Arsenal in the coming months.
