Wigan Athletic have extended the contract of goalkeeper Tom Watson, continuing their policy of tying down their outstanding players.
He only signed his last contract in April, which was supposed to last until the end of the season.
However, he has signed to a new two-year contract, during which time he will aim to challenge fellow Academy product Sam Tickle for a first-team berth.
“I am delighted that Tom has signed a new contract with the football club,” Maloney stated.
“He is a talented young goalkeeper with a bright future.”h the football club,” explained manager Maloney.
“I’m excited to see how he grows with us and wish him the best of luck as he embarks on the next stage of his journey here.”
During his first year as a scholar, Watson, who has been with Latics since the age of seven, helped the Under-18s win the Professional Development League North title and became national champions.
He spent the season on loan at Mossley, where he finished second in both the Players’ and Manager’s Player of the Season categories.
