Wayne Rooney attempted to sign Andre Ayew after he left Nottingham Forest. The 33-year-old left the City Ground at the end of his short-term contract in the summer.
The Ghana captain is no longer under contract. Rooney is eager to strengthen his team and is pondering an offer for the well-traveled Ayew.
However, he has since admitted that bringing anyone before the deadline appears doubtful. Ayew was considered because he is still looking for a club.
At Forest, the player didn’t exactly get off to a fast start. He failed to score for the club in the second half of the season and missed a late penalty in the club’s defeat to Tottenham.
Steve Cooper was a friend of Ayew’s from his time at Swansea City. He was a strong performer in the Championship, but he simply did not fire in the Premier League.
Rooney was interested in signing failing Forest striker Ayew.
According to The Washington Post, Rooney has held talks with Ayew about joining D.C. United. However, a financial issue with the club signals that they will not be moving anytime soon.
Ayew might yet be capable of working for a club in a lower-tier league than the Premier League. After all, he has a track record of scoring goals throughout his career.
With Ayew, the Reds are in good hands. He was never going to get another contract with the club, and Forest have now strengthened in that area.
Ayew might yet be able to help someone out there. Given that he is nearing the conclusion of his career, he may need to work in a country that can pay him lavishly on one final contract.
