HUDDERSFIELD TOWN are getting more than simply a ‘great’ Championship midfielder in Ben Wiles, according to Josh Koroma, who knows him well.
The Terriers attacker was Wiles’ teammate at his former club Rotherham United during a loan spell in 2019-20 and could soon vouch for the 24-year-old’s skills.
With his registration not completed in time for him to make his debut against Norwich City last weekend, Town fans are likely to see Wiles – who recently arrived in a seven-figure deal – for the first time at the Hawthorns today.
“Ben is a versatile player who can score goals from midfield and play in a variety of positions.” If needed, he can play wing-back and on the wing as a ‘eight.’
“He is very good on the ball and works very hard off it, which is exactly what we need, to be honest.”
Town have had a rough start to the season, which has been exacerbated by their four-goal thrashing at the hands of David Wagner’s Norwich.
Today, they face a team led by another former manager, Carlos Corberan.
While the Spaniard is in the early stages of a promising coaching career, Neil Warnock is in the midst of a fantastic managing adventure, and Koroma has only positive things to say about both.
“I don’t think you can compare them,” the Londoner added. They are both outstanding managers at opposite extremes of the spectrum.
“Warnock has far more experience and has performed at the highest level.” The amount we run off the ball, I believe, is the most significant difference.
“Under Carlos, he put more emphasis on (being) on the ball. Warnock wants us to be strong defensively.”
Warnock, who has seen every possibility that football can throw at him, will not be caught panicking following Town’s season opener in 2023-24.
“If you remember when Warnock came in last year, we won our first (game), then didn’t win for a couple of games, then won before the international break against Millwall, and that’s when the results started,” Koroma continued.
“If you ask around the locker room, everyone knows that if we keep working as hard as we have in games, things will start to fall into place for us and results will follow.” The same thing happened last season.”
