Goalkeeper Brice Samba comments on leaving Nottingham Forest for Lens in the latest Nottingham Forest news.

Brice Samba, custodian for Nottingham Forest, claims he has “no regrets” about leaving the club a year ago.

Trentside is still a fan of the Frenchman. During his time at the City Ground, he was a huge character on and off the pitch, and he was instrumental in the Reds ending their 23-year hiatus from the Premier League.

Samba left Forest just a few weeks after being promoted, leaving for Lens in July 2022. He had a year left on his contract at the time and had rejected down a new one.

It marked the end of his three-year stint with the Reds. And he confesses that his choice raised a few eyebrows.
When asked if his decision was understood, he told French source So Foot (via Sport Witness): “Not really, no.” I received a tongue-lashing (laughs).

“You can’t touch the Premier League in England, so it was like, what do you mean you’d rather go to Ligue 1?” It was unfathomable to them, but not to me.

“Only two percent of 100 players would have done what I did.” I had all I required to remain there. I was performing well, and I was adored since I was the promotion’s hero.

“I have no regrets because everything Lens showed me came true.” It’s also the club that has helped me gain recognition in my home nation.”

Samba assisted Lens to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 last season and made his France debut early this year. He is one of the nominees for this year’s Yachin Trophy, which is granted to the world’s greatest custodian.
