With goalie Alex Lyon’s second career shutout, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-0 in their yearly Thanksgiving Eve game at home to get back on the winning track. And the “full game” they performed was what allowed them to gain a crucial two points in the close standings.
Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin, and Robby Fabbri all scored goals in the first period, giving the Red Wings a three-goal lead in just 73 seconds.
The triumph was characterized by coach Derek Lalonde as “a little more complete game.” “I admired our defense strategy. We didn’t make many sacrifices. Alex was excellent. Although we had some turnovers and puck handling errors that led to some strange looks from them, I still believe there are times in our game that we can control a little better. On the other hand, our defensive urgency was very evident.
“That was a really good trip for the guys—it’s pretty impressive that they could get off the road and respond like that.”

“These past few games, he’s been outstanding,” Fabbri remarked. Not only that, but he has been preparing and working hard for the entire year. We’re all thrilled he was able to enter and performed so admirably. For the group, it’s enormous.
Lyon remarked, “It’s huge; the boys played great. I felt like it was pretty similar to when we were in Sweden.” That’s all you can ask for, in my opinion, and it goes a long way. Both of us are confident in each other and in ourselves. Although it’s a good beginning, much more work remains.
Lyon made all the difference for Fabbri, who scored his third goal of the year in the victory.
