A week of practice will precede the game, which is scheduled for January 6, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. 247Sports will provide coverage of the practice sessions.
Lightfoot is the first player from Kenwood to be picked for the match.
It feels great to be able to make history in general,” he remarked. “I know I’m a diamond in the rough, that I made it out, and I can stand out from the crowd. For this honor, I’m grateful to my family, my school, and my coaches.”
Lightfoot, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound pass-rusher, is ranked by 247Sports as one of the nation’s Top 60 overall prospects. Though he is excited about the competition this week, he doesn’t feel the need to demonstrate his abilities any more than he has during the four high school seasons.
The game is still enjoyable. I like to compare it to a basketball All-Star game,” he remarked. “So it’s not overly serious but if the other players there are going head to head, I’m going to be right there and competing.”
Lightfoot will play in the All-American Bowl before signing a contract with Miami in December and starting classes there in the middle of January.
He is hoping that mid-year enrollment will prepare him not only for college football, but college life.
“I’m trying to get acquainted as early as possible,” Lightfoot said. “What hear from everyone else who has already graduated and is in college is that isn’t always hard, but it takes time getting used to. With me having lived with my mom, under her wing, it’s time for me to become my own person and I’m going to be able to do that being a thousand miles away from here
Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst Top247 offensive tackle and Michigan commit Andrew Sprague was honored with his All-American Bowl jersey this week as part of the Road to the Dome Series.
“It was really cool and exciting,” Sprague said. He is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 4 offensive tackle and No. 55 prospect overall.
“It’s a big honor and a dream come true and a goal of mine I’ve had for awhile and it feels really good to be named an All-American and play in that game.”Set to be played on Jan. 6, the All-American Bowl is one of the most prestigious honors a high school prospect can receive. Over 20,000 fans make their way to the Alamo Dome in San Antonio,
with NBC broadcasting the game nationally. NFL alumni for this game is a long list, including Christian McCaffrey, Trevor Lawrence, Micah Parsons, Derrick Henry, Stefon Diggs, Garrett Wilson, Marshon Lattimore, Keenan Allen, Budda Baker, DK Metcalf, Quenton Nelson, Tyron Smith, Chase Young along with the likes of Joe Thomas, Ezekiel Elliott, Adrian Peterson, Ndamukong Suh and Heisman Trophy winners Tim Tebow, Reggie Bush and Bryce Young.
