Logan Wilson has come under intense fire after making several dubious tackles during the Thursday Night Football match against the Baltimore Ravens.
It has been revealed that Mark Andrews will not play again this season because of a high ankle injury, which he sustained after Logan Wilson tackled him just short of the goal line early in the first half against the Baltimore Ravens. “I believe it’s more than just a sprain; it’s a type of high ankle injury.” John Harbaugh, the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, said following the game.
Logan Wilson also injured quarterback Lamar Jackson and wide receiver Odell Beckham junior with similar tackles. He was not penalized for any of the three tackles due to an ongoing conversation in the league that the tackle should be banned. The tackle consists of a wrestling-style tackle where the defender grabs the defender by the waist as they run and roll their weight down onto the defenders knees and ankles.
The NFL owners debated whether or not to outlaw hip-drop tackles in the wake of Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard’s ACL injury that ended the previous season, but ultimately decided against it. Because of the subjective nature of such a tackle and the inability to distinguish or enforce a ban, the NFL Players Association is also opposed to one.
Current speculation is that the league will once again deliberate following the season as to whether or not to ban the tackle.
