Journalist Joe Donnohue of the Yorkshire Evening Post claims he has ‘been told’ that Jaidon Anthony will bring ‘intelligent pressing’ to Leeds United.
Donnohue was speaking on the latest Inside Elland Road Podcast, where he highlighted Anthony’s deadline-day acquisition from Bournemouth.
The 24-year-old joined Elland Road after the 11 p.m. deadline, as a swap deal involving Luis Sinisterra came down to the wire.
Anthony has joined the Whites on a season-long loan from the Cherries and will be a direct replacement for Sinisterra, however he brings a very different set of skills to Daniel Farke’s side.
Sinisterra possessed significantly superior quality, as well as the ability to score or create from nothing, whereas Anthony is more of a winger who can pick a pass and work much harder.
Donnohue offers his thoughts on what Anthony will bring to Leeds YEP writer Donnohue says he spoke with a journalist who covered Bournemouth during their promotion season, in which Anthony played a major role with eight goals and seven assists.
He’s been informed Anthony will provide a great work rate as well as the ability to win the ball back in high areas owing to his pushing, which Leeds’ current wingers don’t have, save from Dan James.
“I think he’s more than enough,” he said. I just got off the phone with someone who covered Bournemouth during their promotion season under Scott Parker, and he was praising Jaidon Anthony’s talents on the pitch.
“He’s a very down-to-earth, normal guy who is jovial and will talk to anyone.” It appears that, at the age of 24, he will fit in well with the Leeds side. It’s not like he’s joining a team that’s already well-established and full of veterans and senior guys.
“Then there’s the stylistic fit: right-footed, left winger with good defensive attributes and a hard worker.” I’ve heard he’s a very astute presser, which I think is vital considering how far Leeds will advance in the last third.”
These remarks make it evident that Anthony will provide significantly more to Farke’s side off the ball than Sinisterra ever did.
Of course, losing Sinisterra was a tremendous setback, but Anthony will provide something fresh and is certainly a great player at this level, making him a valuable asset.
