The NFL staff of Bleacher Report suggested that the Indianapolis Colts should think about re-signing Phillip Dorsett, a former first-round selection.

In recent memory, wide receiver Phillip Dorsett is regarded as one of the Indianapolis Colts’ least successful first-round selections. Dorsett had 51 receptions for 753 yards and zero touchdowns in his two seasons on the team.

However, Bleacher Report is urging the Colts to re-sign the former first-round pick.

“The Colts’ wide receiver position is dangerously thin. There are just five wide receivers on the active roster, and both Josh Downs and Alec Pierce carried dubious designations this week, according to the NFL staff at Bleacher Report. Currently, it’s worthwhile to look through the practice squads of other teams in an effort to locate a player who could add some depth.

“The name Philip Dorsett is well-known. The former Colt is currently a member of the Broncos practice squad.”

As long as Indianapolis signs Dorsett to the active roster, the Colts may sign him off the Denver practice squad for no money.

In the 2015 NFL Draft, the Colts selected Dorsett with the 29th overall pick. However, he only made seven game starts before, just before the 2017 season, Indianapolis traded him to the New England Patriots in exchange for quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Dorsett has recorded 151 catches, 2,001 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns in eight NFL seasons. With the Colts in 2016, he had 33 receptions for 528 yards and two touchdowns, which was his best season to date.

The majority of this season, the 30-year-old has been a member of the Broncos practice squad. He played against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1. However, he only got one target—which he failed to catch—and only played six snaps.

With the Houston Texans the previous season, Dorsett caught 20 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown.

Since Dorsett left the Colts in 2016, the team has had two head coaches and numerous offensive coordinators. In case the team is worried about the well-being of Josh Downs and Alec Pierce, Dorsett could be a fascinating addition.
